Recent Allerton Magnificent Mile Review: "The hotel would be just "good" if it were not for the staff. The staff in its entirety seems to want to go above and beyond every time you encounter them. The bellhops are extremely professional and courteous. The front desk staff is friendly.
The hotel rooms are in good condition, although I did notice some maintenance issues, but all were very minor. The room we stayed in was quite fancy and modern. The only thing I didn't like about the room was that the toilet was all function and no form; it looked like your average store bathroom toilet. The bathroom in our room was kind of small, but the rest of the room was larger than average (we were in a king bed room).
The free safe in the room was very nice, I was able to fit two laptops and other valuables in them. Internet access is available at $10 a day, however, I was able to pick up and use access for free from a nearby unsecured wireless access point (SSID: "Observation 2").
The workout room on the 26th floor is in very good condition and has beautiful views of the city. There is no pool.
The most friendly staff member was the lady in charge of cleaning. Although she only spoke broken English she was so friendly and accommodating of my family. She did a wonderful job.
The location of the hotel is alright. It's on Michigan Avenue, however, we found that it was quite a bit north of the attractions we wanted to see. Navy Pier is within walking distance, but Shedd Aquarium and other attractions in the south end will require you to take a bus.
And now the bad things, I've left these until the end because they are far over-shadowed by the good things:
- Parking is $50 a night and valet-only. Although you do get in and out privileges at no charge (other than tipping)
- Valet service took a while to get our car when we wanted to leave (overshadowed by the friendly service)
Fun fact: This hotel has a 13th floor, we stayed on it!
Summary: Very friendly service, modern and classy rooms (with slight wear), excellent"
