Recent Hotel 71 Review: "Hotel 71 should leave out the 7 and start calling themselves Hotel #1. We visted Chicago with two other couples (all three heavy travelers) as a "couples get away" and it was our best trip yet. The hotel is located in the perfect spot. Due to the location it was easy to navigate to the South (Theater), North (Shopping), and East (Navy Pier) sides of the city. It is also perfectly located to the trains; close enough to walk, but not so close you hear them at night. We thought we would spend close to $300 just on transportation for the 5 day trip, but came out with only spending $150 due to the convenience of the hotels location and ability to walk. Even though the hotel does not serve breakfast it has a Starbucks across the street, a corner bakery on one side and a breakfast hen on the other. So no big deal that they didn't have a place to eat. I took one of the review's advice and booked us all "City View" rooms on the corner. I also requested to not be lower than floor #36....IT WAS PERFECT! The view is amazing! And for future stays FYI: The banquet room is on the 39th floor so you don't want the 38th for noise. The exercise room is on the 37th floor so the hallway noise can be bad too, so the 36th floor ended up being the best of all worlds. Certainly worth asking for the corner room too! The hotel's decor is great. The hotel was built in the early 50's so it has the "older" charms, but has all the latest up grades and modern style decor. Great for our group as we look to stay in places that have character! Last thing to note - I'm constantly looking for a bargin or asking for a recommendation. The hotel staff was 1st rate! They gave us all kinds of coupons without even asking, had all kinds of recommendations for resturants, and they constantly were giving me new maps with circles and arrows directing me where to go. They even would mapquest and google information for me too if needed!!!!!! With all of that said I would HIGHLY recommend this"
