Recent River Hotel Review: "I found this delightful hotel online and I must say that I was thrilled with my choice. I was going to be in town for a conference and was not happy that the site hotel's block of conference rooms were booked. Not to worry - I found not only a better deal, but what I believe was a much needed respite from the hustle and bustle of the huge conference  hotel. I know that check-in and check-out were quicker and easier and the staff could not have been any more courteous and helpful. It was a delight. I did have a problem - no fault of the hotel - but the fault of a rude hotel guest who decided that even though they weren't on the smoking floor of the hotel, they would smoke anyway and it flowed through the ventilation into my room. I called the front desk and they promptly moved me to another room - at 12:30 a.m. The apologies flowed even though it was not their fault. (I hope they outrageously charged the idiot who got caught smoking!) Adjacent to the hotel was a fantastic Italian restaurant - Bella Bacino's. Fabulous little bar and delectable food. We didn't have a chance to try the pizza but heard that it was amazing. Country singer Jimmy Wayne, who that day was named spokesperson for the National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program sang and spoke at our conference and then went to Bella Bacino's for a late lunch and tweeted that the pizza was outstanding. (I'm pretty certain we should have joined him because the conference hotel's food was terrible.) Another high note was the great bar tender at Bella Bacino's - a "should be award winning" Bloody Mary and a GREAT tip about Nakamol jewelry store just south of the Michigan Avenue/Wacker Drive intersection. (Every girl needs some stylish new bling!) All-in-all, you certainly won't feel like a salmon trying to swim upstream at The River Hotel - Actually, it was very smooth sailing!!"
