Recent Whitehall Review: "First visit to downtown Chicago to sightsee. The Whitehall was a great value in the perfect location. Just around the corner from Michigan Avenue at the upper end of the Magnificant Mile. Completely remodeled room was quiet and bedding was luxurious. Staff friendly and helpful. All the best stores nearby. Walked to the Visitor Center in the Old Waterworks Building for 1/2 price theater tickets, free use of computer (Internet), purchase transportation passes. Lots of great brochures. One block to the John Hancock building - went to the lounge at the top for fantastic views of the city and Navy Pier. Parking very expensive - try not to drive your car downtown. One possibility - park at Midway airport and take public transportation in. Will go back to the Whitehall and recommend it to friends."

Originally built in 1927 as an apartment building, this hotel maintains its Victorian ambience with intimate quarters showcasing antique mahogany furnishings, oil paintings and wood paneling with glass-enclosed memorabilia. Morning coffee and teatimes are hosted in a tea room just off the lobby area. The Fornetto Mei (Beautiful Little Oven) Restaurant serves Neo-Milanese, Oriental and Italian cuisine with specialty pizzas prepared over a wood-burning oven. The hotel is in a great location and you can walk but has very few amenities. For example, no coffeemkaer in the room. If you want ice, you must call room service! The business center charges a bundle for internet usage. On the positive side, the room was clean, had nice furniture and the bathroom was nicely appointed too. Next time I would consider staying close to the airport in a "suite" type hotel and use the money saved on a car rental.

ONLY THING WE FOUND NOT THERE WAS THE DOOR STAFF TO MEET AND OPEN DOORS LIKE IN PAST STAYES, LIKE EVERYPLACE COST OF STAFF HAS TO BE CUT, BUT STILL AT NIGHT THERE WAS STAF OUT SIDE KEEPING WATCH ON YOU COMEING AND GOING, WICH THE HELP US WITH STREET PEOPLE BOTHERING US THE JUST TOOK US BY THE ARE AND SAID PLEASE COME INSIDE... WE DID AND A BIG THANKS FOR THAT, WE CHECK OUT DIFFRENT HOTELS WHY WE WALK AROUND AND STILL FIND THIS THE BEST, AND CLOSE TO THE CTA WICH WE NOW USE A LOT WHY THERE,,,,,,SO YES WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN

The room temperature was difficult to regulate. Either too cold or too hot. The covers on bed were unsatisfactory. They were too heavy and warm for summer. And one day had no hot water and no one from hotel told us about it until I called front desk.

Do not send anything out for drycleaning or laundry service. They are supposed to have your laundry back by 7pm the same day it is sent out however I did not receive mine for two days and when I did finally get the knock on the door it was 11:30 at night. Also after having gone through my laundry I noticed nothing was washed it was simply hung up and they still charged me for it. I will not be returning here.

My daughter more than enjoyed our stay. V ERY clean rooms ,we loved the european flair. In the middle of all the action helpful staff what more could u ask for. We cant wait to return

Overall, a great location at a fair price. I paid for a KS room, but they told me only KS smoking rooms were available, so I was downgraded to a queen. Somewhat disappointing, but the room was fine.

Perfect downtown location, within a block of the John Hancock building, Michigan Avenue and Rush Street, restaurants, shops, and the fabulous architecture and sights of downtown Chicago. Hotel personnel at the front desk were charming and cheerful, and hotel service was friendly and accommodating. The room was clean, comfortable and inviting, well appointed. A really superb boutique hotel.

The accomodations at the Whitehall are beautiful! Our bed was so comfortable and our bathroom was luxurious! The location is perfect...just steps away from the John Hancock building!

This is an older hotel that has been re-finished. It is very nice and comfortable. The rooms are a decent size. The tile work in the bathroom is nice. The bed is very comfortable. The location is fantastic - lots of shopping and restaurants.
